Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve State Natural Reserve (SNR)

15101 Lancaster Rd, Lancaster, California, United States
$1

Description

1,745 acres wildflower preserve from mid-March through mid-May. Eight miles of trails, visitor center. Spring time when poppies are in bloom there are wildflowers creating patches of color throughout the reserve. Goldfields cover parts of the South Poppy Loop with splotches of yellow, and the owl’s clover has recently started popping up among them near the spring (now dry) on the North Poppy Loop. Sweet-smelling “grape soda” lupine bring bursts of purple at various points in the reserve, and the diminutive pygmy-leaf lupine line some of the trails with blue. The field of lacy phacelia has now gone to seed at the top of Kitanemuk Point. The reserve continues to evolve through the season, as the silver-puffs are about to open into a carpet of silvery cotton balls. Alternative energy solar panels.
